Treatment Options
Unfortunately, for many Oklahomans who find themselves trying to deal with compulsive gambling, there are not a lot of readily available treatment options. Gambler’s Anonymous Meetings and private counselors are really only available in limited areas. Many gambler’s who seek help find themselves traveling long distances to find a GA meeting or going to a substance abuse counselor who has never really dealt with gambling addiction before. There are inpatient gambling addiction counseling programs out of state.
Although 12 step programs are not for everyone, GA offers help at no cost to the gambler and Gam Anon provides support to the family members. Whether you chose to seek the services of a professional counselor or not, GA can be extremely helpful for most addicted gamblers and should be considered by all people who are trying to deal with gambling addiction. Gam Anon allows family members to better understand the things that they need to do in order to deal with this problem. A list of GA and Gam Anon Meetings in Oklahoma can be found here: Find Help
